Trying to commission my new 1991 Cat 30, St'd. Rig...I had to pull the mast to rewire antenna and lights. While I had the mast off, I relaced the missing centering piece and sprayed the innerds with dry silicon lube.

When we re-stepped the mast and balanced the rig, (not bending on any sails yet), the drum hung up and would not turn....as it just had moving freely after lube.

I checked the obvious....kinked line in the drum, line slider jammed, foreign objects in the mechanism....with no luck.

Has anyone had any experience troubleshooting this unit?

I really don't want to try to disassemble, or worse, replace this unit unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks,

Ralph........Still dying to sail this beauty for the first time!!!!!

Hi,
...Point of information. I contacted Pompanette in Florida and was told that I had the jib halyard way too tight and the turnbuckle at the base was binding the bottom portion of the unit.

I eased it slightly and the problem dissappeared.

Thanks for your help,

Ralph
