Hood 705 LD furling problem

When the new sail arrived the sacrificial strip was on the "Wrong" side. (It rolled inside)(my fault) Any way I would like to know if the drum on a Hood 705 LD can be dissassembled and the line which is continuous can be simply flipped to solve the problem. I know the line can be cut but that requires a butt splice (continuous line) to repair and the line is old so I'd like to avoid fighting with it. Anyone know how or even if the dissasembly can solve my problem? Thanks Fred

705 LD Furling

Fred: I must be missing something.I have the Hood 810 LD system. The drum turns both ways. Just reverse the procedure when furling.

More info

Right--I wasn't clear enough. The furling lines have a set of blocks(mechanical advantage) if the line is pulled one way and no blocks if pulled the other. Have you taken the system apart to the point of being able to remove the loop? How?

Easy to "flip" line

I don't understand how you can use blocks to gain mechanical advantage with a Hood continuous line furling system. I'd love to see a diagram, since this would be useful for me on my LD 810 system. Like Fred, I don't see why you can't just pull the loop the opposite way to furl the sail. However, if you want to flip the line over on the drum, this is easy. You need to disconnect the forestay, so use your jib and spinnaker halyards to support the mast. The lower half of the "drum" loosens with a single hex head bolt, allowing the line to be dropped down and turned over provided the forestay is detached at the bottom. The drum isn't actually a drum, it's more like a sheave. If you have self tailing winches, the lower part of the Hood furler is just like the top part of the winch that grabs the tail of the sheet. Good luck, Bob.
