I have an older BF 8 circa 1987 with breaker point ignition. It is having a lack of cooling issue and I need to find the thermostat. All the references show it on the top port side and I think that is for later versions. I have seen a comment that the intake manifold needs to be removed, anyone know if that is correct?

What makes you think it is the thermostat?

Assuming it is the thermostat Yes the intake manifold needs to be removed. If I remember correctly there are about 10 nuts that secure it. No need to remove the carb I left it on when I did mine all in all about a one hour job.

I replaced the impeller which had a vane missing along with another broken one. I found what appeared to be most of the fragments. I still did not have adequate flow out the pee tube. I have thought about flushing the system, but was afraid I might set an obstruction due to the pressure. It seemed that the thermostat was the next most likely culprit, except I have not found it. The pee tube has small flow and it is very hot. The engine came used with the boat and was terribly neglected so the likelyhood of salt damage is great.

Thanks so much, that is one diagram I have not seen before and it looks just like what I have.
