Honda Problems in Reverse

I've had problems with reverse on my 15hp Honda since I got the boat last year. Whenever I put it in reverse, and give it too much gas, the motor is kicking up. Yes, I have it locked down, but the mechanism doesn't hold tight enough. This has almost gotten me in trouble a few times maneuvering around in crowded harbors. I'm reluctant to permanently fix it down, for performance and safety issues. Has anyone else had similar problems and come up with a good solution? Unfortunately, there is not a Honda outboard dealer conveniently located, but as a last resort, I may find one to take it to. T J

Check Springs

Check the locking mechanism for missing or failed extension spring. We had the same problem on our 9.9 Honda last year...Good Luck

Springs

Actually was missing a spring when I got it and I replaced it. Just checked and it looks like it fell off again. I guess I need to get a bunch of spares.
