I have a 2004 longshaft, Honda 9.9 on a Catalina 25 (1980). This motor has a plastic cowling underneath, which means that you can not 'strap' it to move or lift it. The only way to lift it is by a plastic handle; the motor weighs about 120 pounds. With the boat in the water, while lowering the motor, using a winch, onto the motor mount, the plastic handle broke. Fortunately, the motor was over the motor mount and it landed in place on the mount.Recently, the plastic lock mechanism on the tiller that secures the acceleration level has stopped functioning. The shop that I bought the motor from tells me that you have to be careful about overtightening the locking mechanism. Hmmm, why is it so delicate?Since the motor is still under warranty (a good thing), I can get the repairs made if I bring it in (a bad thing, because it's so heavy and wrapped in plastic cowling). How do you lift this engine? Should I have bought a lighter, simpler Tohatsu?
