Honda outboard on Edson controls

Hi, I exchanged the Mercury 8 hp, 2-stroke outboarder, which came with my boat, with a Honda 9.9 hp, 4-stroke.
The Mercury was setup to a Epson dual lever clutch (forward-reverse) and throttle control.
It was very nice to operate the engine from the pedestal and I would like to have the Honda hooked up the same way.
Does anyone have a Honda outboard engine running on Edson controls or made the cable fitting to one? I would like to get advice on this. Thank you,
Hart

I do, I changed my 9.9 Mariner to an electric start 8hp Honda a couple of years ago. I took my Hunter 26 into the local Honda dealer and had him do it. When I got it back everything worked but on the throttle fast was slow and slow was fast.
Sorry I could not be more help.

Thanks, Ken,
at least I know now it can be done.
I suppose on the engine are throttle (on the tiller) and the forward-neutral-revers (lever) cable disabled and the Edson cable connected instead.
Maybe someone knows how and what is needed for the hook up.

Honda back about 8 years ago changed the engines out but you could buy one with the cables but no tiller. I sent those engines back to the manufacturer. If for any reason the steering cables ever broke, I wanted a tiller on the engine which to steer with. One reason why I quit using Honda even though you could put a rudder to motor connector which would steer the engine with the use of the emergency tiller. I am not sure if Honda ever changed that back. Does your engine have a tiller on it? IF it does have the tiller, you will need to see if the manufacturer offers a cable connector kit for your engine.

I was wrong, it is not a Honda its a 8 HP Yamaha, sorry. The boat has been sitting in the shed since last fall and I forgot what make of motor it was.

Dave;
My Honda 9.9 hp has a tiller and XL shaft. I was considering the remote version as well but liked to have a tiller out of reasons you mentioned and also thinking when selling one day. The remote version came with a Honda remote most likely made for mounting on the side of an powerboat than a pedestal and when using the Edson controls it would need to put a starter ignition key somewhere which is on Honda's remote and not on the motor while the tiller version has a starter button.

My decision for buying a Honda: I believe it's a good and liable engine but unfortunately also more pricey. Important for me was the 12 Ampere (145 Watt) alternator to charge my board batteries on a longer trip without access to shore power. To my knowledge offer all other small outboard engines only 6 Ampere (75 Watt).
