is it a good idea to hook up shore power inlet to a hond eu2000? I have a 2003 B361.

Been doing this for years on my 393. The wrong polarity light might light up on your ac panel but just ignore this. Has something to do with a "floating ground" but it works fine. For more info on the polarity thing you might want to check out the Honda EU2000i group on Yahoo. Lots of good info there on these wonderful little generators.

I have used a generator to recharge my batteries whilst cruising this summer, it was not very efficient, (very slow to recover charge) so I think I will use the 12volt terminals to the batteries direct. Has anyone done this?

larryw,
do you get the reverse polarity light on your ac panel that Rick from Toronto mentions?
I have that when I turn my inverter on. Might need directions for an electrician in San Pedro that could (or should) look at this.

G'Day,
Are you stowing your Honda generators, in a particular way when underway? Where is it when operating for CO venting...? Would you consider the 3000 Watt model or is the 2000 sufficient?

Isn't the 12vdc output 10 amps? That would take something like 48 hours run time to charge my house batts! The little stinker would drive me nuts at hour 5.

The 3000 gets up there in weight and size. I believe it is on a wheeled carriage? I've found it better to use the Honda 2000 connected to the shore power input/charger than to use the 12-volt output to charge. I look back and wish I'd bought the 2000 with the 30-amp output connector, but no 12-volt.

Actually, you could wait forever and it would not charge batteries. Remember that voltage is synonymous with power in the sense that no current would flow to the batteries unless the charger voltage exceeds that of the batteries.

This is probably due to the size of your charger. To get the best out of these 2000's you need a good charger, mine is 100 amps and gets the batteries up in an hour or two. I've seen 90 amps going in with the Honda. If you have a 20 amp charger and your bank is down 200 amps it's going to take you all day to get them up. The 12v won't charge your batteries at all, not enough voltage.

I stow mine in a cockpit locker. Hondas have a very tight gas cap and no fumes escape.

I use it on a side deck or the swim platform. I find the side deck better as the exhaust seems to suck back in to the cockpit (vacuum) when it's on the swim platform.

The EU2000i is plenty enough as long as you have a big charger.

The 2000 Companion w/30 amp out let, the 30 amp outlet only works when a EU2000i is hooked yo a EU2000i Companion in series. You have to have both generators to have the 30 amp plug work.

Do you have one and know this to be a fact? Does not sound logical and my Honda Catalog does not mention it. And certainly not in series. There are outputs to gang the generators for increase amps.

i happen to own two eu2000is and the connection kit...yes you need two generators and both must be running for the full output to be available.

To clarify for oithers, my intent was to mean the 30-amps CONNECTOR, not that there was 30 amps of power. I'm sure the 30-amp connector works at the rated power of the generator..

Remember that is 10 amps at 110v for you or 240 vfor me.
Plug the Honda into youe Beneteau shore power charger and you will fill the batteries poste haste.
I have mentioned before I mount the Honda 20ie in the starboard cockpit locker with an exhaust extension (nitrile rubber attached to an extended exhuast pipe) venting next to the main engine exhaust.
You must leave the locker open to facilitate cooling but mounted on a rubber pad it is a very effective method of recharging.
Additionally check the output connections on the Honda, you can run the AC at 2000watts and the 12v DC concurrently.

The 12-volt output is 8 amps according to the owner's manual.
I had a Honda 8 with 12-volt charger, and now a Honda 2000 with 12-volt charger. It was my thought that the "12 volts" was mearly enough to keep the lights and guages running. Today I took a reading of the 2000's 12-volt charging output, and read an open-circuit output of 19 to 20 vlolts.
