Does anyone use a Honda EU1000 generator on their boat? The guy in the slip next to mine brought one of these units out to his boat the other day. I had no idea that someone made generators that were so small/light and that were quiet. Well ever since that has gotten the gears clicking in my head about getting one. Apparently the cost around $600-$700. My one concern would be exposing such a great machine to the salt air. Do any of you'all use this generator? How long have you had it? And comments on it? Thanks.

Honda engines are high quality

I can't speak to their generator, but as a comment, Honda makes very fine engines. You'll pay more for a Honda engine on a lawn mower or a industrial type generator than say, a Briggs & Stratten because of the high quality of Honda engines. I've got a Honda lawn mower and it is much higher quality than my previous John Deere. Hope that helps. Wynn Ferrel S/V Taanquility

EV2000

If you have a system like an air conditioner aboard, then you might need the EV1000's bigger brother. The great thing about these units is that you can actually "daisy chain" them together to get more boost for the buck. They are rugged machines and salt air per se is not more of a stringent environment for them than using them outside or leaving them in the garage when not in use. They are pretty tough units and I would recommend them. You can adapt a shorepower cord to them and plug them into your boat through the shore power inlet. Presto! AC aboard!!

EU-100 No problems

I have used an EX-650 aboard for 4 years, we needed more juice so I upgraded to an EU-1000 last summer, Works great, uses hardly any gas, frequency is always right on, as is voltage. It’s pretty quiet. Corrosion on the EX-650 hasn’t been an issue, however I don’t leave it out, except when I’m using it. I still have the EX-650 and it still works great.

How do you store it?

I have a simular unit but Yamaha made. How are you storong the unit when not in use? Do you get fuel in it? do you put it in the cockpit locker? Any thought of gas fumes?

How do you deal with the gas storage, refueling

and gas fumes? Does having a gasoline devise onboard cause problems with insurance coverage. Thanks, Ray

if you insurance co. dosnt want gas on board, you better not have a outboard eng. for your dinghy. i use the eu 1000 but im upgrading to the eu2000 this summer, i use it for three seasons with no problems. just use you brain when it comes to storing the unit and its fuel.

inverted built in

Honda makes a small generator, now, that has an inverter built in. You might consider it.
