I was wondering if anyone owned the Eu 2000i companion model? Will it hook direclty to a 30 amp shore power cable to run a 12000btu A/C?

Don't think so. read this from the Honda site - requires two units....

2000 watts, 120V
[*] Built in 30A outlet for easy parallel capability with another EU2000i

[*] Ideal for TV/DVD, satellite, fridge, coffee pot, and more
[*] Great for RV applications
[*] Super quiet
[*] Inverter - stable power for computers and more

What is the "Companion" model"? I run my Mermaid 12K A/C with my Honda EU2000i. I use a pigtail, one foot long, 3-prong 110v plug on one end and the other end a male shorepower end to plug into the shorepower cable.

But I do not run the toaster or the microwave at the same time! It is just borderline.

From what I've been reading, the Companion has one standard 15 amp plug in and one 30 amp plug so that the Honda power cord can connect two 2000's together for 4000 max watts.. The unit alone cannot make 30 amperes and is rated same as the old unit, 13.3 amperes. I don't know if the 30 amp outlet is the same as the normal boat 30 ampere plug, but it looks the same. The idea is that two generators would be connected by the parallel cables that they sell then the power would be taken off the Companion using the 30 ampere outlet.. I have been looking seriously at these.. The Companion lists for $100 more than the standard EU2000, so ya can probably rig a 30 amp connector pigtail for less than $100 if you are handy with power cords and electrical work.

How did you wire it exactly since this may be the way to go, I have an old shore power cord and could easly splice it to regular ext. cord, is there any gotcha's or tricks to it?

Here's exactly what you need: http://www.wholesalemarine.com/pc/M...wer+Adapter+30+Amp+Female+to+15+Amp+Male.html . The difference between this one and mine is the ten inches of 3-wire between the two ends. This one is solid and should be better with no connections to corrode.

Years ago I wired a shorepower connector in the anchor locker. And that is where I run my Honda, on the anchor locker with hatches closed.
