I have a 2003 4-stroke Honda 9.9 outboard. I want to buy the fresh water flush adapter. I have a question. Does the Honda adapter stay in the threaded opening on the engine all the time, or do you have to take the cover off and screw the adapter in each time you flush? If it stays in, do you have to remove the engine cover each time you flush or does it extend through an opening through the cover. I've seen Yamaha outboards that have a garden hose fitting outside the cover and makes it very easy to flush. Is the 9.9 Honda adapter as easy? Thanks, BrianW

On my Yamaha, (I know, different engine) I take the cowling off then remove the hose for the pee hole. I connect a similar hose I purchased at Home Depot with a hose adapter and backflush that way. Didn't have to buy any kits. I do have the Salt Away flushing device which I use about every 6 months. However, the hose to hose adapter and connection to the engine pee hole outlet works great for backflushing with fresh water.
