I read all the posts regarding this engine.... I agree with all except "that it is a loud engine"...Compared to a 2 stoke, it is,.. I'd say 1/2 as loud or even milder... Honda ahould be paying attention. I would expect more from Honda,... not less reliablity... even if ethanol and tiny jets seems to be the problem... They of all firms should figure it out... Here we are, Joe Public, spending a fortune to have a "green" engine, and if you want reliability at sea or on its more dangerous "corners",.... survivors will buy a polluting 2 stroke... I'm on my second one... the carb is sitting in a bowl of laquer thinner as I write. I'm selling it also... near new, but used sparingly...bad ingredients for a 4 stroke Honda 2 hp! I got a beat up, 96 Evinrude 2 stroke 2.5 that is wonderful!!! And you know what else is cool?.. They actually have parts in stock in my town at reasonable prices... Very different from Honda...("we'll be glad to order it for you").. Also, I affirm others who say the metal and fasteners are cheap crap form where the rest of cheap crap comes from... Fastener corrosion is a big issue... But when it is running, it is a great machine. For sale for (2006 model) $600...practically new...google me if interested.

Running them out of gas is NOT good as it leaves a lot of fuel in carb to dry up ,most motors like my Tohatsu have a drain screw that allows the carb bowl to be COMPLEATLY drained
My Mercury/Tohatsu 2.5 has the same problem and I use fresh gas w/ stabilizer and drain the bowl. My mechanic also blamed tiny jets and recommended running the motor once a month or so. Seems to work thus far.
