Honda 4-cycle?

Finally pulled the outboard out of the garage that was part of my H37C purchase in 1998! It is a 2HP, 4-cycle, without a manual. I put it on the dinghy and it started with the second pull! The next day it would not start at all. I think it might have something to do with a small unmarked lever at the right rear(left as you face the motor). The choke, throttle, and stop button are all on the front. Does anyone know what that lever is? Could it be a fuel shutoff? It is connected to the carburetor I think. I did check the websites and found manuals, but only for purchasing. And I will. Thanks.

I've got the same engine, also without the manual. I'm pretty sure the lever your talking about is the fuel shut off valve. Mine is marked with a gas can on one side and a crossed out can on the other. I can't remember which way is open, it's not here and I don't use it very often.Another thing you want to check is the small screw type valve on top of the gas cap. That must be open to vent the fuel tank. When I first ran mine, it started right up and ran for 10 or 15 min. then died. Took me a bit to figure out I had to open that valve (turn counter-clockwise).Hope that helps.

Thanks Ron. Even with my bifocals I could not make out the markings under that lever. And after messing with outboards for over 50 years I can still forget the vent cap!

bad gas

if its been in storage since 98 the gas has gone bad and may be easy to fix. just drain the old gas in the tank and carb if need to and add new gas.if that doesnt work pour a small capfull directly into the sparkplug hole if it runs then you will have to rebuild the carb.but im not sure if your carb has a float bowl or not.hope this helps.
