Just finishing the 115 VAC rewire and now addressing air conditioning. I've got a Honda EU2000i and will going with a Webasto FCF Series unit. I will NOT be using a Dometic Smart Start (due to budget).

Not only do I want to avoid lengthy operation at/above the continuous rated 13.3A, (longevity and fuel consumption) but I'd like to be able to run with Econothrottle selected ON. (Intending little use of a/c while anchored out, but sure want it when I want it= keep mama happy.)

Here's my specific question: is anyone running a FCF 5000, 9000, or 12000 btu unit from a Honda and able to do so with the Econothrottle ON?

(Note:The boat has an old 16k Artic Air unit, but it won't not get past locked- rotor with the Honda. Comes close though.)

Thanks!

I am running the webasto FCF12, which i installed last year in my H33. I needed to install dometic smart start to start ac with my Honda 2000, and then will only start in non-Eco mode. Good luck.

I don't think a 9K BTU unit is going to be much help in a 37' boat. Even the 12K might not be adequate. Is the 16K unit working? Consider the option of running two Honda 2000s in parallel. It may be cheaper to get a 2nd Honda generator than to purchase an inadequate A/C unit.

Thanks for the inputs. Not a big surprise that the 12k won't meet my objectives, but good get known experience input. The oversize cap could be a player in a marginal situation for the 5 or 9k units.

I'd be surprised if the 9k would start (~35a) in the Econothrottle mode, but I'd be very interested to hear if anyone has been successful doing this (without a full up Smart Start).

Barring any further input, I'll probably add a 5k unit (~20a at start). I believe this will start with Econothrottle ON, but I'd sure like to hear if anyone can verify.

As noted, this won't make a dent in cooling a 37' boat, but it will cool he v-berth. We're primarily spring/fall boaters, this will work for our occasional needs.

Yep, still have the 16k. It's removed due to PO poor installation job. If our needs change, it could go back in.
