homemade shifter extension

Got tired of leaning over the transon to shift gears way down on the outboard while loading, unloading etc. Mainly while I nervously watch my wife load the boat on trailer.
Bought a used aluminum walker from a yard sale for a $1 looked at it for a minute and decided I could make a strong, convenient, rustproof extention. And with all the little button adjustment clips it has like the bottom of crutches I can not only adjust it but quickly unlock all the pieces to store in a very small spot. Took me 15 minutes to make and sand my rough saw barbs off!

Way better than mine (a stright aluminium shaft screwed on the shifter). How do you attach it to the rail?

Piotr it just sits on top of the transom...it does not go anywhere I only use it for docking and loading on and off the trailer. It's so easy to take on and off ( like 5 seconds) I don't keep it on there when sailing. I guess you could tie it to railing with bungee or something but it's not going anywhere cause when it comes across top of transom it lays level with the top

I see. I tied it to the railing just like you said, but it makes a racket. I need it all the time, beacuse we motor out about 30 minutes to the bay and back.
