I got a Pur survivor 35 on ebay with a used but serviceable membrane for 200$, then i added a windshield wiper cam-motor to actuate the hand pump for me. I spent less than 400, and that's with me adding a silt prefilter, oil water separator, carbon filter and low pressure pump to protect the membrane.

consumption only. Her viewpoint was that people today are way over washed, so I suspect it was a good thing she was solo. Other than some fresh fruits and vegetables that she picked up along the way, her diet consisted of mostly canned goods. I think she collected rain water as well. A Google search on her name will bring up a web site of her trip.A bout with influenza that she picked up from the Falklands almost had her boat scuttled by the British navy. It just so happened that some of the navy crewmen were familiar with her boat and volunteered to sail Amelia back to the Falklands until Karen recovered.Terry

I hear many cruisers take baths in the sea with Joy dish soap as it works well in cold water, then they rinse off in the cockpit to get the salt off. I've done this a few times and haven't felt the need to rinse off. I do use a floatation device and recommend so as kicking around in the water attracks sharks. If you are worried about on-lookers, take your suit off in the water and put it back on before you get out.In places where water is either scarce like the Bahamas, or has to be carried aboard via the dinghy, it's best to learn how to catch water and conserve it too.

Water Conservation.

When coastal cruising in my Catalina 25 and my Catalina 30, water was an issue. I would heat up some sea water on the stove, pour it into a 2 Gal. Bug Sprayer with some Joy liquid dish detergent, pump it up and there was my sea water shower. Then I would use 1 gal of fresh water, also in the bug sprayer, to rinse off. I had a pressure shower and a "metering" system all in one. A 2 gallon garden bug sprayer doesnt take up much room.BTW, FRANKLIN, we enjoyed the short visit the other night. Tony B
