Homemade bowsprit

Hi,I am a happy owner of an Oceanis Clipper 323 since May 07, last week I have just bought a gennaker. I have connected the base with the anchor basement at bow, but the gennaker is too closed to the furling genoa. What I would like to do now is a bowsprit to put away the gennaker from the bow. Has anyone, reading me, already experienced on this manufacturing? To allow me to do that by myself, considering my in house capabilities, I would like to use the stainless steel material.May I have your input, suggestion, design, picture, etc????Thanks Ciao Domenico

Tack line?

Are you using a tack line which will allow the tack of the gennaker to rise two to six feet off the deck? - Normally the gennaker billows out nicely - away from the furled genoa

Flying a kite

When flying a Kite (Cruising shute), I've often attached the Tack line through the end of the spinaker pole and lashed the pole to the pulpit. This puts my tack about 3 feet out in front of the boat. The line is lead from the tack of the sail, through the pole end, through a block at the anchor roller and back to the mast where it is cleated off. in theis way I can still use my sock to bring the kite down by releasing the line at the mast. seems to work fine for me.By the way, this is on my 42

Rig a Tack Line

Your 323 should have a padeye on the foredeck at the bow. There should be a swivel block attached to it, through which you should rig a tack line.I think Beneteau's original intention was to cleat this line off on one of the bow cleats. I set mine up with a longer line run back to the top of the cabin so that I could control it from the cockpit. I installed an extra lever style line cleat there as well. It makes it easier to adjust the tack line up or down as needed.A welcome addition would be a sprit, to get the tack forward of the bow pulpit.

Domenico - sorry you don't seem to be getting much help for the actual construction of a bowsprit - Maybe asking the question without restricting it to Beneteau owners would get some more creative answersI seem to have sidetracked the thread - as I don't understand the need to get the gennaker out in front of the genoa by using either a bowsprit or a pole.Is there some performance that I'm missing? - or is it just the opportunity to sail with both the genoa and the gennaker at the same time? - or is it just monster size chute?Regards Brian B321

Brian, what I would like to achieve with the bowsprit is twofold: 1) better performances of the gennaker when well far from the furled genoa and 2) to facilitate the tacking. What I aim is to put away the base of the gennaker 30/40 cm from the point where I am connecting the gennaker so far.Regards Domenico
