home variety co detectors

I compared labels and certifications. I can't remember the details, but I called technical support for one of the companies and was told that they are basically the same in terms of detection. The marine variety is certified to withstand environmental conditions and vibrations. I decided to use 3 CO detectors (from Home Depot) which are a fraction of the cost of the marine units.

I agree they are practically the same.

In the boat I use battery powered ones. Also get ready for false alarms aboard. Battery gases, fuel fumes and others may trip those CO alarms.

You want one that doesn't use batteries

One that's wired into your boat's battery. 'Cuz it's too easy to forget to change the batteries...but not your boat's battery. And a CO detector with dead batteries doesn't provide much protection. Marine versions are designed to be "hard wired"...which explains why they cost more. So which type you choose depends on what you think your life and that of your family and crew are worth.
