Has anybody made or know of anybody that has made their own boat stands. I will be doing a bottom job at the end of July and would like to build some. Any ideas would be great! Thanks. Chris..

If you can weld then go to almost

any boatyard and take measurements. The bigest problen you will face is the screws and top plates. The screws are typically Acme Thread with a matching nut. the top plates are mounted like the pad on a "C" clamp. If your ground is soft you will want feet on the legs. Typically the center shaft is 11/2 pipe and the legs and braces are 1" and 3/4 " respectively.

go to a scaffold supply company

Standard scaffold jacks (leg adjusters)) will drop into 1 1/2" pipe, the rest is easy. You can buy them used from a tool rental yard but they may rip you on the price, new ones with a 2' long screw are about $25 ea. Use the screw jacks for your fine adjustment and slide your 1 1/2" into a piece of 2" for your rough adjustment, drill holes for pins as needed. You could try looking on Craigslist if you don't mind paying the freight from another City or State. Try contacting your boats manufacturer and ask for cradle specifications and make a cradle instead. They are alot safer than stands. good luck

A cradle of 55 galllon drums

Folks make cradles outta lumber alla time, but you need a model or template, not a big job, but lumber is expensive nowadays... A yard I was in in Kiwiland used 55 gallon drums but you need to set the yacht on her keel first the prop her with the drums and padded of course, the fill 'em with beer, or water if you're cheap----- I would strongly advise you to have a yard rent, or sell you some pad-screw stands, even these are not fool-proof and I was near a yacht that fell on its beam ends once...
