In Britain we have 240 volt mains electricity. Many years ago I went to stay with a pal in New York.
In the morning I was taking a shower and put one hand on the wall. I got a tremendous shock.

He was a DIY man and had just papered the bathroom and used the then brand new type of wallpaper with a very thin silver foil on the backing paper and this was overprinted with fishes and other sea creatures. The wallpaper was as sold waterproof and specially for showers and bathrooms.

All DIYers will know the way to paper round a light switch is to remove the escutcheon plate and paper right over the switch. Then come back with a craft knife and cut 4 diagonal slits in the paper to allow it to stick to the wall.
Well, my old pal, being a bit long sighted, had left one sliver of paper across the switch contacts when he put the cover back on. His papering had overlapped the various sheets slightly and he had managed to make a continuous connection from light switch near the door right round the bathroom to inside the shower cubicle.
We laughed later that he had redecorated the bathroom specially in my honour and nearly ended up electrocuting me. Actually I was his boss at the time so, had I fried, court proceedings would have been quite interesting.

Stark naked it does rather make one jump, even though it was only 110V!

I was installing a new ceiling fan in the living room. I was not sure exactly which way the power was routed but I turned off the light switch and put a piece of tape over it to keep it in the off position. Jumped up on the metal step ladder and took down the old fan.

I got the new fan up and hanging by it's bracket and reached up to grab the first two wires and twist them together so I could put a wire nut on them.

This is the exact time my amorous wife decided that a) my shirt was off, b) my attention was elsewhere and c) let's distract him a little. So she reached up and very gently brushed my nipple.

Now, I'm not sure what reaction she expected but I'm sure that my jumping off the step ladder, screaming like a little girl, cussing, and panting really really fast wasn't it. I've been "tingled" before and that light touch felt just like getting hit by 110V! We laugh about it now but those first 3 seconds were terrifying.

Hijack alert.... well come to think of it.... this may still qualify as a holy sh@# moment.

I have a wife story. My wife and I purchased an older (but in decent shape) farm house a few weeks before our wedding and 0n the day of our wedding, my wife decided that I needed to glue the wall paper that was peeling away from the top of the shower stall. As if our guest would want to take a shower during our reception?!!

Anyway I grabbed some super glue (see where this is going yet) and using the back of a spoon I pushed the wall paper back in place with some glue under the paper. Well when I was done.... my other hand was firmly glued to the shower stall (palm to). I shouted to my wife to bring some fingernail polish remover... and instead, she showed up with a camera.

Funny that. My wife and I were doing our final walk-through and showing her folks the house we were buying. My wife just got her first pair of contact lenses and during the walk-through her eyes got irritated. (by now you should know where this is headed). Well, she mistook a bottle of super glue for her eye drops. This was 2 days before Christmas and made for an interesting holiday season. She got drops in both eyes before realizing what happened. It doesn't hurt or sting at all, in case you are wondering.

Well, the stuff was developed for battle wounds, and has been used in ocular surgury.

As we found out after the incident. The ER docs were relatively useless but the opthomologist we say on Christmas day was quite reassuring. This was almost 15 years ago, since then we've used super glue regularly to seal up cuts etc. and the Dr. Used it on my surgical incision a couple years ago but that. Omens you just realized you super glued both eyes closed and have no idea if it's caused permanent damage certainly qualifies.

Yes. What solvent, if any, did they use to open 'em back up?

Warm water compresses to soften the skin and then just slowly pried them open. Lots of artificial tears and, if I remember correctly, some analgesic ointments but no solvent. She still looked beautiful, even without her eyelashes.

Wife and I were skinny dipping in the BVI's. We were on a shallow reef near Marina Cay and looking at all the fish. In the distance were several barracuda giving us the fish eye. After a while you sort of got used to them being around so I continued the snorkel. My wife however decided to sneak up behind me and tug on my part that hung down. Jesus had nothing on me when it came to walking on water.

Yes kpgraci..............the first "E" is evade.
But when you are in that class there are 4 evolutions............
Survive
Evade
Resist
Escape

Bad news is you MUST go through all four as 75% success is 100% failure.
Good news; Resistance IS NOT futile
Bad news; IT IS very painful

As a kid I was knocked across the basement by 110 volts. I was 10 and my dad was working on the washing machine when he was impressively shocked by either 110 or 220 v. Dumb me, I started laughing and he knocked my on my butt.

I keep a pair of side cutters in my electrical tool bag. It has two holes cut out of the blade- positive and negative- from a day when I thought the breaker was off and went to cut the cable to length. If I had been grounded instead of standing on a fiberglass ladder that would have been it. Those side cutters are a constant reminder of the free pass I got that day.

And once, while ripping a load of red oak stock for my dad, I got lazy and pushed a piece through without keeping it flush against the fence. Should have had a feather board, but at 16 one often skips important steps. A piece kicked back and hit me square in the chest, breaking a rib and knocking me back about three feet. Eight or ten inches higher and it could have killed me, I'm sure. Sitting there on the floor, dazed, I remember saying, "Oh, Sh#t. That was a close one." Then I passed out for a while.
