...the phrf ratings for the Cork 1720. Hot little boat but 42 seems a bit toooo low don't you think??? This thing is only 26'. Hell, an Evelyn 42 rates a 42 and shes a speed demon and twice the size.

Seems a mite low

The Melges 24 rates 90 on LMPHRF. According to Sailing World, the Cork 1720 should be slightly faster, but 48 sec / mile seems to be excessive. Alchemist #909

I've been considering ....

...one of these machines, but with a 42 rating I don't think I'll be able to sail past the rating. If it were in the 80's or 90's I'd give it a go, but ........... I'm hitting 60 and not quite as nimble as I was a few years ago.

Not Right

Granted it's a dinghy, that rating can't be close. I looked at the class site. Rick D.

Think you're lookin at mis-quoted numbers ......

The PHRF (Newport) rates the 1720 @ 102 while PHRF (LIS) gives it a 111 .... still a hot 26 footer and 'almost' equal to an M24 @ 102 PHRF(LIS). If that pintel hung rudder was underneath and not able to 'ventilate', I'd bet she'd be much much faster. Whats an archaic stern hung rudder doing on a sportboat? ..... arrrrrrgh http://www.sportzboats.com/pages/13/

Your numbers make much more sense, but I just rechecked the YRA-LIS database and they list the rating at 42, can't figure out the discrepancy??

New boat: 'unstable numbers'

Many times when a new boat is rated the 'numbers' bounce around quite a bit until a few races are run and the rating committee is satisfied.
