Will you spend Christmas, New Year's Eve, or any of the holidays aboard your boat? Maybe a quick, brisk day sail, or if you own a larger boat, perhaps a family gathering on the water? What are your plans for holidays on the water?

New Years on the river

We'll be going on our 2nd annual New Years Cruise down the Multnomah Channel to Hadley's Landing. We did this last year & had a great time with our cruising friends. Well, other than when the engine blew up & I had to hop a ride with someone else and left Rob to fix the boat. We'll be going on the same trip this year, only without the engine troubles, thank you very much! LaDonna

New Years Eve

We'll be picking up our new 320 on the Thursday before New Years Eve and sailing it back home over the holidays.

Everyday is a Holiday onboard.

Last year we had Thanksgiving dinner aboard. The whole family really enjoyed this. This year we plan to have a New Years sail. You know start the year off right! I don't know about the rest of you but, whenever I am at the docks or aboard our boat, it is always a holiday for me! Fair winds and calm seas...

Christmas & New Years

We already put some lights on the boat and did a short Lake Union cruise with about a dozen other boats and the Argosy Christmas Ship complete with choir. No rain, so it was very successful. We will be joining some other local Catalina Association boats for a three-day rendezvous at Elliot Bay Marina for New Years eve. The only reason I agreed to go was that they have cable TV hookups at the dock so I won't miss any football games. (Go Husky's) Also, it's only about four miles to get there. I hope 30amp AC power will provide enough heat :)

Tarpon Basin Tranquility

About an hour sail southwest from our marina lies Tarpon Basin. It is just off the beaten path of the ICW and offers a secure and serene anchorage in almost any weather. Located inside the boundry of Everglades National Park, the bird watching is fantastic. Herons, Egrets, Osprey, Eagles, Roseate Spoonbill, and many other water foul abound. At Chrismas we get a special treat in that Flamingoes brighten the sky with their brilliant pink plumage. This has been our destination for the week between Chrismas and New Years for the past four years. Only 14 more days to tranquility. PM aboard Ursa Minor

Stop It Paul Your Killing Me

As I sit here at work the only white sands in my life are about 2' of snow that fell last night. Actually keep the images coming. Only 130 days to launch. Yippee!!! Don

Middle of the Pacific

Technically not the middle, but we'll be sailing our boat up from La Paz starting 12/18 bound for San Diego. Should be roughly 300 miles off the coast of Baja around 12/25. Will be my first Christmas at sea!

holidays and more

We will be relocating our Catalina 400 from New Orleans to St. Pete Fla over the holidays. We leave on the twentieth and hopefully arrive a few days into the new year so both holidays will be on the water(on is the import word here as opposed to under). Look forward to the beautiful clear night skies in the Gulf.

Christmas Eve & New Years

Will be on the lake sailing & partying Christmas Eve weekend, but have to keep the peace in the family and show up back in town (and pick up my son!) on Christmas Eve. For some reason my folks are ticked off and think I ought to be cooking, etc., with them over that weekend. Gee -go sailing, or stay inside and cook..... Maybe I'll just pick up a fast food turkey & bring it over on the way back from the lake :) Will spend New Year's Eve long weekend on a cruise with my son along with the local sailing club. Happy Holidays!

Spend the holidays on my boat?

Interesting idea! I guess I could roll back the blue tarp, sit in the cockpit, and stare wistfully up at the rafters of the barn. But there's not much wind in there. And that's good, with a wind-chill factor today of a minus 23 degrees. On second thought, I think I'll wait 'till the next holiday...the Fourth of July. Dale Wile S/V "Grandechild" Sandpoint, Idaho

Trying to convince spouse

I am trying to get my very good sport of a wife to go out on New Years and spend the evening on the lake. Unsuccessful so far, but there is always hope. Temps in the 50s are the only deterrent - but I can always dream. Not uncommon to see 60s or 70s here in December.

Get the fasr turkey Lisa...........

Save time Lisa and take them a turkey. You made a good choice to sail. I will be on my boat enjoying the calm of the water for three days at Christmas. My grand daughters and I will spend New Years Eve on the boat and watch the fireworks. Happy Holidays to all you sailers. s/v rainnek

2 feet of snow here!

Well, we'll just be returning from a vacation in Mexico. We currently have 2' of snow on the ground. Our boat is on the hard and covered up. I'll probably be dreaming of how I would LIKE to spend New Year's on my boat...while sitting on the hook in St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Hawaii, South Pacific.....any where but Wisconsin!

Dreams only!!

At the moment the temperature outside is only -43 degrees with 3 feet of ice on the water. Fortunately the real cold isn't forecast to arrive for a few days yet, so I can still climb into the boat and sit at the tiller and dream of future voyages. Those of you with warmer weather and water that isn't hard have my envy. Best wishes and seasons greetings to all from the crew of "Sea Raven".
