Holding Tanks

Hi Peggy I have a H37C and I was wondering if I could use a storage compartment in the vee-berth as a holding tank. Two sides and the bottom of the tank would be the hull of the boat and the other two sides would be exsisting fiberglass bulkheads. The top is fiberglass as well but would have to be fitted with a proper cover. The shape of the tank could drain easily at the bottom of a bulkhead.Venting would also be straight forward. It has obvious advantages but what are the downsides? Thank you for all your help. John S/V Slainte 1983 H37C

I wouldn't...

The location is fine, but once you convert that space to sewage holding, it can never be used for anything else again. That may fine with you, but it's highly unlikely that you'll be last owner of your boat...the next owner may not even need a tank. So I'd drop a tank into that space instead. Check the Ronco Plastics catalog (http://www.ronco-plastics.com Their prices are VERY reasonable, and among their more than 400 shapes and sizes are over 100 non-rectangular shapes...so I'll bet you can find a tank that'll fit. Rotate the drawings, flip 'em end for end...'cuz there is no top or bottom till the fittings go in, and you specify the fittings sizes and locations to be installed when they make the tank. Where are you? Unless you're in the Great Lakes or on a no-discharge inland lake, it might make more sense to install a Lectra/San and a much smaller tank. A 37' boat certainly should have the power resources to handle an additional 10-12AH/day.

Ronco B-276 is a 22 gal tank that fits into the vee-berth without cutting anything. I just installed one in a couple of hours. Tell Ron Pearson of Ronco that Ron Pearson in Houston sent you.... Ron
