Just buy a bigger one if the tank is still good. You should be able to figure out how to hold it in place from the outside of the tank. Place a circle cutting saw the size of the current hold inside a saw for the larger hole as a guide for the new hole. Then just fit new fitting with a reducer. I put a link for a larger fitting below, but there are a ton of suppliers.

I am not sure I would enlarge the tank. I know it is a pain to have only a 12 gallon capacity but it forces you to empty frequently thereby reducing or eliminating odor. When cruising I pump out nearly every time I dock or top off the tank---virtually no smell ever utilizing a little sanitizer each time.

Assuming yours is a polyethylene tank: I had a small crack / leak at the outer base of a fitting (threads were still ok). I took the tank to a large RV repair shop and they had a plastic welder of sorts and fixed it for good for about a half hour labor charge. Depends on the access to the crack but something to consider. If you do have to replace it, take it from someone who cruises with a wife and two daughters: the bigger the tank, the better.... Definitely replace hoses while its out and if you install new fittings, the smooth -surfaced type rather than the barbed type are worth finding - hoses go on and off with a lot less swearing.'Hope this helps.

Bigger fitting, not a bigger tank

I thought he said he had a crack at the fitting and meant that he could replace it with a larger diameter fitting easily vs. replacing the tank.

I agree with you that I doubt I have the room for a much larger tank. I have been thinking about simplifying the plumbing to just pump out rather than having a y-valve to the through hull as I am unlikely to be in a location to be able to pump overboard and thought it would reduce smell.

Twelve gallons does fill up rather quickly though. The biggest problem I have had is that pump out is readily available until when I really need it...when I am pulling my boat out. I am invariably all pumped out and ready, then someone has to use the head in late Oct/Nov. Two years ago I was on the phone with the harbor master asking permission to go aboard their pump out boat to get an adaptor I needed to connect the dock side unit to my boat LOL.
