Several article on the internet, indicate a "gooseneck" for the vent line. I've tried to install the vents with as much of a horizontal run as possible. I was wondering if the tank will vent properly, if the hull fitting is below the run of the hose, i.e., downhill, but still above the top of the tank. I'm using 2 vents, one on either end of the tank. The hull fittings are standard bronze 1 in thru hull fittings and no screens. Will this cause any problems with venting the tank? I also read on the RONCO site that you shouldn't use metal fittings with plastic tanks; any thoughts or knowledge on this. I thought the plastic for the tanks were chemically neutral.

I can't grasp

I know that sometimes I am a tad slow, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why the vent line on a holding tank should run horizontal. If it is large enough to pass enough air, and isn't kinked anywhere, what difference can it make. Unless it is an odor thing. That would make some sense to me, but which way a line that only passes air runs, I just can't see that it matters.
