Holding tank vent

Where does everyone's vent go from their holding tank? Advice I have so far leans towards a short run but i'm thinking of a longer run aft to the transom (thanks quetzalsailor).

I just hate to put a vent in her topsides when there are none right now.

The holding tank vent is on the port deck just outside the port into the head, and next to the pumpout fitting.The vent hose leads next to the pumpout hose. There haven'y been any odor problems, although ocassionally there is a whiff.

Thanks!- after the new year I'm going to start. Just got a book by Peggy Hall the Headmistress which I've heard has good info.
