Does anyone have the size of the forward and aft holding tanks on a Hunter 40' ? With all the specs and other literature we have, nowhere do I find the gallon capacity. Thanks, this will make my life easier....You can imagine! :)

Small and Smaller

We have been living aboard our Hunter 40 for a few years now and I still don't know their size. I do know the foward tank is about twice the size as the aft tank, and I need to pump-out the aft tank once a week. (That's with two people using only the aft head.) You can also tell when it needs pumping by the sound. It goes from a large spash to a dull gurgle.

capacity is 38 gallons. I removed the sole, just to take a look and saw the nameplate.

40 holding tanks

The rear holding tank is under the settee by the nav station. It is about 12-15 gallons. (very small!!!) The top can pop is easily but somewhat more expensive to repair. Make sure your system vacuums well for pumpouts. Forward tank is probably double the size. Recommend the installization of warning meters for the tank getting too full. Inexpensive job that can save on the backpocket and olefactory.

Stephen, what do you mean by "vacuums well?""

It's a turn of phrase that makes me a little nervous till I know what you mean by it.
