I need to replace my holding tank. I got a quote from Triple M Plastics on the East Coast. Nice people, good price but the shipping costs are almost as much as the tank itself. Does anyone know of any other manufacturers in the midwest? My boat is in Wisconsin and I live in Minnesota.

Tank replacement

Go to Ronco online and download the drawings for marine holding tanks. Also, look on top of your old tank-if it is a Ronco then use the model number accordingly. I've just replaced mine on a 1981 Catalina 30. Good luck

try this

Find out from the seller, the dimentions of the package, if the holes are just taped shut. Then ask how much it weighs. Then... call the United States Post Office near you and ask them how much to ship a so and so package from the seller to your home. Then... you have the seller magic marker your address on the tank, and tell them to drop it off at the nearest post office...which, is their back door!!! The Post Office will pick it up. I did this with a lot of stuff from my trip from Cleveland to Miami. I sent everything back in big plastic containers, and duct taped the rims. Came home intact, and cheaper than ANYONE. Even sent an anchor home by mail, a danforth. Just taped the sucker up, added an address, and it came home in one piece!

Try shipping by Greyhound Bus

Bus shipping for heavy and bulky items is much less than truck freight. The only downside is that the shipper and the receiver must drop-off and pick-up at a locl bus station. I concur that Triple M is very nice to deal with (I bought the first h40.5 tank that they made last year) and the quality is first rate. They may be able to accommodate you with bus shipping.

Thanks for the great ideas

I emailed Triple M this morning to find out the weight (I already have the dimensions) and then will check with Greyhound and USPS. What great ideas! Thanks again!

Been there done that twice

Two different boats and I went with Ronco as suggested in an earlier post. If I ever have to do it again, Ronco will be my choice.

I'd Like to Ronco a try

and I looked at their catalog online but I have no idea what tank I would order. I suppose my only option would be to measure the one I have? I wonder if I can order it by boat model? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Call them

When I spoke with Ronco I told them I wanted a B192 and they immediately asked how I liked my Ericson. So they must have some knowledge of OEM tanks and the boats they were built for. Also contact others with the same boat. Don't rule out a custom tank. I designed a custom 18gal. tank for my Pearson that I had built by a company in Rhode Island. Cost was about $200. Tim R.

Don't Bother

There is nothing close that will work in the space provided for our 40.5's. And, a custom Ronco will bring you to your knees cost-wise. Stick with Triple-M. They have made several copies of this very complex tank. It's well worth the shipping cost regardless of what it is. Other than that, go with the original manufacturer who will make up another in aluminum, but thicker and with a coating inside. But you'd still be faced with shipping charges, so why not go with a nice custom plastic one and be done with it? FWIW, i also checked in SoCal for a custom tank. Since there are many sources, I thought it would be easy. It wasn't. This is a piddly thing for them to do, and so they were not interested at all. They are big commercial outfits. Rick D.

If you change your mind

and go as others have suggested with Triple M Plastics, who also did my new tank, I'll be driving to WI in about one month and could deliver it as far as Milwaukee for you.

USPS to the rescue!

I found out today that I can have that thing sent parcel post for about $85 with a 5 day ship time. I can live with that and I don't have to task Don with driving my holding tank cross country. Thanks for the kind offer Don!
