O'day 302 Watkins Glen
Has anyone replaced the holding tank in an O'day 302. What was involved? How was it accessed? What about the hoses?

Thank you.

Why do you want to replace it?

I have a 322, so not sure if it the same as the 302… but on the 322, the holding tank sits under the rear berth. Remove the cushions and look for a piece of plywood that is screwed down, remove the screws and lift up the plywood. My tank is there. The pumpout hose runs from the port side deck, down inside the lazzarette, and down through the bilge behind the engine. Mine runs alongside the tank, to a 90 degree fitting at the bottom of the tank. The waste hose from the head runs along the rear engine bilge and connects to a fitting at the top of the tank. The tank is small…about 19 gallons.

I have lifted mine out, took it home and washed it out. Then I rebed the inlet and outlet fittings (they screw into bosses in the tank.

Here is a little video I made….again, this is on an O’Day 322. Not sure if the noO302 is the same.

Thank for the very information reply. Unfortunately the tank in the 302 is under the counter in the head. You can see it when you open the cabinet door. The inlet, outlet, and vent are accessible in the cockpit locker but it probably would require removing the diesel tank. Im thinking of using some dye to see if there are leaks in the tank.

Gotcha, Sorry my info won’t help.

O'Day 302 Ottawa
An original O'Day 302 shows two configurations for the holding tank: 1) One configuration locates the holding tank under the starboard main cabin birth (mirroring the water tank under the main cabin port birth), and; 2) an optional, more offshore version with a holding tank located under the counter in the head.
Similar to Greg's 322, my 302 has the holding tank under the starboard cabin birth and the molded tank can be removed from under the birth after hose connections and wood bracing are removed. I imagine that your configuration would have you remove the tank by disassembling the side of the sink counter in the head and sliding the tank out into the head and off the boat and not by way of the cockpit lazarette.
That said, if the tank is like the other tanks on the boat, they are tough and any leaks are more likely happening at the connections. Remove the side panel of the sink counter to access the inlet, outlet and two vent connections. You may have to remove the head itself to improve your access. Undo and re-check tightness of both the tank fittings and hose connections, look for cracked fittings or signs of a leak to pinpoint your problem. I also replaced all of my hoses and washed/flushed the interior of the hull. Best.
