Holding Tank on Vision 32

I currently have a flexible holding tank on my V32 and am interested in replacing it with a rigid tank. The current tank is in the lockers farthest aft on the boat accessed by the lockers on the walk through transom. I'm not sure how I'd get a rigid tank in these rather small holes. So my questions are: -- Where are you holding tanks located? -- If rigid, what size (capacity) and dimensions is your holding tank? -- If your tank is in the same spot, how did you get it in there?I've been quite puzzled by this for some time, so hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me! matt

Tank location

A holding should be within 6-8' of the toilet...any further, and it's almost impossible NOT to leave waste sitting in the head discharge hose to permeate it. If the aft cockpit locker is further away than that, I suggest we start looking for a better location for a new tank. You'll find the answers to most of your questions if you'll search current posts using "holding tank" as your key word. In fact, if you'll just scroll through the posts for the last week, you'll find a bunch of 'em.

Where oh where can my holding tank be?

Hi Matt-A flexable stinker in the transom locker? That's pretty wild! (and, as Peggy points out, a long way to pump poop!)My holding tank is in the space under the shower seat. I can't see it, as there is no access that I know of. But I know that where all the pipes (in, out and vent) lead.I don't know if this is the stock location, but it is directly under the pump out connection on the deck.Capacity? Too Small! I've never measured it (may do it today as there is NO WIND!)Options?Wall off a foot or so of the aft cabin (make a closed in shelf) at the foot of the space and put a long, skinny tank there-it's right next to the head. You could probably get 20-25 gallons if you wanted to, maybe more.Put in a composting toilet! (don't laugh-we've thought about it and saw one at the last boat show here in SF)Good Luck!

Why not a Lectra/San instead?

Far better for the environment than a holding tank...needs much less space...and no odor problems.

V32 Tanks Were In Two Locations

Earlier ones were in the head, I think under the shower, and later were under the swim step. I had one of the latter. It was aluminum and disintegrated in time. I had to cut it up to get it out. Big job. I also considered going to a bladder, but decided instead to go with two six gallon poly tanks siamesed to twelve. That was the only way I could get capasity into the space. One thing you may want to do is to look under the aft berth to see if there is adequate space. See the link to Ronco plastics that makes a vast number of sizes. Good luck. The pump-out was through a through-hull to Starboard of the fuel tank. There was just empty space under the shower seat. Rick D.

Are you referring to...

the location of the pumpout deck fitting, or the "dumpout" through-hull? Fwiw, it's not legal to have a holding tank that can only be emptied by dumping at sea.

Darn Semantics

I meant the 'dumpout' was starboard of the tank. The pumpout fitting was on the aft starboard deck, near the stern cleat. Rick D.
