We're seriously considering putting in a permanent head in our 1976 O'Day 25 (part of a complete interior overhaul). Do any of you have a holding tank in your O'Day 25? I'm wondering the best place to put it on that particular boat. Our boat has not inboard motor, so there's no fuel tank in the way, and the small water tank is under the cockpit, so there are no "additions" in the way. I was thinking of putting it where the current "wet locker" is, behind the head, but was wondering if that's too far outboard.

I put mine under the v-berth
It only holds 9 gallons, though. It was a tight fit to get through the opening, but I was able to do it by starting with one corner of the tank and then rotating each of the other corners through the "wide" side of the opening. I made a cradle for the tank out of pressure treated 2x4s, shaping the bottoms to the contour of the hull. (Looks sort of like a sled-dog sled--but I'm from Texas, what do I know) I ran two #12 screws through the face of the v-berth to secure it in place, and then tabbed the cradle to the hull with two small tabs of fiberglass--not much, but enough to hold it in place. I also put a flexible water tank forward of the holding tank, under the v-berth.

Herb, My '83 has a fixed Porta-potti that is plumbed up to the deck for pumping out. It holds only five gallons or so and we have to pump out after each weekend but it works just fine. Just something to consider. Tom

and placed a triangular flexible water tank forward of the holding tank.

By cutting an access hole into vertical wall of v berth space, I was able to slide a 22 gallon holding tank in place. I made a cradle to support this out of blue board foam and fiberglassed that in and then attached the holding tank to that with webbed straps. I had 6 inches vertical clearance to undersurface of v birth so was able to use standard fittings to connect inflow, pump out and vent lines. So far have left opening into space unfinished but plan to use some plywood to close it off after I get tank monitor connected. Had to drill holes to run lines in bulkhead but wasn't too difficult.
