I am planning to install a holding tank on my Oday 27 and would be interested in hearing from others that have already done this. Where did you install it? (under V-berth appears to be the logical location) How large a tank did you install? Where did you run the vents and deck clean out? Thanks for any suggestions and help.

Its A Good Upgrade

Per, I have the OD25, but our respective placement of the holding tank can be similar. A previous owner installed a 20 gall plastic tank under the V berth, snug up to the front (wide) end and vented to outside. It is rectangular and rests on a plywood platform. There is a square piece of mahogony plywood facing the salon to cover the tank, and a removable wooden window piece has been installed to keep an eye on tank levels. Clean-out deck fitting was run straight up to the side-deck, and a vent was run to the hull side, high up. I don't use the tank, as a porta-potty serves my needs, but the tank and the marine head (stored away for now) are available if I need to. Not many other placements are available on our respective boats, especially so close to the head. Don

I looked into it for my O'27

My 1974 O'27 already had an 18 gal fuel tank under the port side V-berth and a 20 gal water tank under the starboard side V-berth. I planned to put the holding tank inside the "hang-up closet" cabinet area behind the head. You can get a trapezoidal shaped tank to approximately fit the contour of the hull and the plumbing is very easy. Run the cleanout and vent up along the fuel filler hose. Insert a Y-valve next to the vent-loop and you're done. Jim Cook "Dream Chaser"

Thanks for your suggestions

Jim and Don, thank you for your suggestions. Both are reasonable and, as always, compromises. :) I would hate to lose the hanging locker, but the v-berth is much more complex.
