I have recently purchased a Cal 34, 1971 model. I have been looking but have been unable to locate the holding tank, is there anyone that has any idea as where this is located? Many thanks Joel

There may not be one

Or, never installed. Builders weren't required to install holding tanks on boats built before 1978...TN didn't have pass any state legislation to require 'em till the mid '90s--and enforcement is a bit lax except on non-navigable likes like Norris. So any holding tank had to have been owner installed at some time...but if the boat's POs thought they could get away without one, it's possible the boat has never had one, that it's flushed directly overboard all these years. Best way to find out whether the boat has a tank and locate it: trace the toilet discharge hose to see where it ends up ...if it goes to a below waterline thru-hull, the toilet flushes directly overboard. You need to find all the thru-hulls anyway, 'cuz if the boat ever starts taking on water, that's NOT the time to start hunting for the source...and besides, seacocks require some maintenance and all of 'em, should always be closed when no one is aboard. If the boat EVER had a tank, there'll be a deck pumpout fitting somewhere, most likely on the side deck on the same side as the toilet. Or, you could just ask the PO. Depending on what you find and how old the toilet and hoses are, you may need to replace the whole sanitation system...'cuz toilets and hoses have a finite lifespan. I also suggest you check out the link below.

I had a 1977 Cal 34 III that had no holding tank. You probably do not have one. The discharge for the head was under the sink, but like Peggie said, follow the discharge hose and that will take you there. I put the holding tank under the v-berth infront of the head and it worked great. Good luck Greg
