Holding Tank for a 1980-27

We are looking to purchase a 1980 Hunter 27. We noted that there is not a holding tank. Has anyone retrofitted a tank onto this boat? What was your experience in doing so? Thanks!

Porta-potty

was original equipment on our '77 model, and still is. It has an air line that goes through the hull just below the toe rail, and a pump-out hose that runs to the deck. Not a bad solution for two if you can pump out every few days. In all cases, Peggies stuff is the authority!DavidLady Lillie

PAR Mini-Tank

The Par (ITT) Mini-Tank is a 6 gallon holding tank with fittings which fits perfectly under the Starboard Settee up against the galley wall. It is pretty cheap in that its self contained, fittings and all, and it holds a weekend worth of nasty stuff. I would also think it would fit fairly well in the bow locker next to the head by the water pump for a shorter (cheaper) hose run. I recently replaced the tank as the old (15 years or so) one had become slightly odor permeated and discolored and it was a cheap and easy job to go along with the hose replacement I was already doing. You should be able to find it on the DefenderMarine Web site. I think that 6 gallons is the smallest tank you would want. There is a Raritan PHII with a wrap around 5 gallon that looks pretty simple and neat and would fit but its just too small for a long weekend.

5 gallons is too small, but 6 gallons isn't??

The difference is only a MAXIMUM of 2 flushes--1 per person--and then only if you're frugal with flush water...certainly not enough to make the difference between spending one more night aboard or inviting even one more person.IMO, unless the tank is only for show and will never be used, 12-15 gallons is about the smallest tank that's worth the money and aggrevation to install it. The difference in cost between the smallest tank and one that size is minimal, the cost of the hose and fittings is the same...and so is the amount of time, effort and aggrevation.
