On my Bene381 there are two fittings on top of the holding tank that are not used and would like to use one for a macerator and maybe the other one for an additional vent. I have the black poly 15ga tank in the starboard lazarette. The first fitting is a female 1-1/2" thread that looks like it has not been punched through the tank. The other one is a male that is closed on top but without the barb on the outside. Nobody knows what this is for and yes I called Beneteau customer service! I wonder if it's a relief vent of some type or if the top can be sliced off and a 1-1/2" hose put on it. Thanks.

Hi Lee; I have a very similar set of tanks in my B411, and am currently evaluating options to reduce odors. I think the problem with the standard Beneteau holding tank configuration is:

  • Too much hose with lots of waste sitting in hoses.
  • Small vent hose.
  • The pump out hose is on the bottom of the tank (perpetually full of waste).
Take a look at Nigel Calder's Boat Owner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual (3rd Ed.)pg 544 for what I plan as a winter reconfiguration.
