My '06 Hunter 38 has a Wema Brand guage that reads the level of the water tank and holding tank. The holding tank side does not read and I believe the problem is with the sender inside the tank. It appears the only way to access the sender is by removing the port rear lazarrette (propane locker) above the tank. It is set in the deck with silicone rubber and screws, Almost impossible to remove. I have damaged it trying.

Any wisdom out there?

Do a Ohms test in your manual, it does tell what it should read empty or full .
i thought the sender was bad also but the sender in the tank did read what it is suppose to and so for some reason it does not read at the gauge but the water side does work, driving me crazy but my sending unit is easy to get and replace in my 2007 H-36.
The dealer did replace the sending unit back in 07

Don't know about wisdom, but here was my experience cleaning out the sending unit on our 99 H340 (Wema gauges, but not sure if the sending unit is the same).

The problem is the float inside the plastic cylinder of the sending unit gets stuck when the goodies in the tank dry out after a pump out and extended absence. After cleaning the sending unit out again after about 3+ years, I decided to replace the in-the-tank sending unit with the external sensor and a new multi tank gauge display unit. Not quite finished with that project, but here is a picture of the new panel, replacing separate round Wema water/holding tank gauges
