Holding tank chemicals in my bilge

I recently pumped out my holding tank for the 1st time since I bought my H-31. I bought the blue chemicals (don't remember brand)for the holding tank, which I flushed (hand cranked) with a gallon of water as indicated on the intructions. Last week I checked the bilge before going for a sail and I noticed that the water in the bilge was bluish. I don't think this should be happening. Is this normal? What should I do? Thanks Bernard

Maybe Leaking Elsewhere...

...and finding itself in the bilge. Best to check it out. Maybe the holding tank is leaking? You didn't spill any, did you? If you have a rain leak, it may have washed down that way since it remained blue.

Follow Your Nose

If you have a leak you will know it soon enough, just follow your nose

Everything the Head Mistress has written...

about holding tank chemicals, that blue stuff is a waste of money. Check the archives on products she recommends for your marine holding tank. If you have an aluminum tank and it's more than ten years old, more than likely it needs to be replaced. If so go with a plastic replacement from RONCO. Terry

Yup, Probably the Tank

As Terry says, if it's an aluminum tank, it is likely leaking at the seams. If it is, repair is a waste of time. Follow Terry's advice. i had a '91 Hunter Vision 32 which started leaking from the tank when it was about seven years old. I replaced it, as I did with the water tank which was also aluminum and failed. Rick D.

Hi Rick, did you go the RONCO route?...

At some point we will need to replace our SS holding tank and RONCO has a plastic replacement for $250. I'm curious how the fitting location process went and if everything matched up okay with the new tank. Terry

Not Ronco, Terry...

For the 32, I did two six-gallon tanks since the deck was put on after the tanks were in and that was the only thing I could get to fit. For the 40.5, I had a custom tank made from Triple-M Plastics since it was designed for a particular place in the pan grid. BTW, I am SO HAPPY with the work Triple-M did on Peggy's advice, even if it did take forever for the construction and delivery. It was worth waiting for. Rick D.

Ronco vs. Triple M??

Thanks folks. Sorry for the late reply. I did not spill anything. I guess I'll do some research on holding Ronco and Triple M tanks. I would like to get one that fits without too much of a hassle. How long was the wait for the custom tanks from Triple M and was the cost comparable or reasonable? Has any H-31 owner out there replaced their Holding andor water tanks with a Ronco tank? Suggestions appreciated. Thanks for your help. Bernard
