I have been referring to this site for years for ideas and general info. I'm hoping there are some out there who have replaced their holding tank and can save me some time. I currently have a flexible tank (from previous owner) in the stowage compartment under the V-berth. I would like to replace it with a rigid tank. Has anyone put a tank in this space? I've seen the photo-project forum with the tank in the standing area but I would rather use the space under the V-berth. If someone has done this, do you have the specs for the largest tank you were able to fit in there? I should mention there is a thru-hull on the starboard side/low for direct overboard discharge. I don't know if this is Hunter origional or added by a previous owner. This limits my usable space. If it is not factory standard then I know I'm on my own, if it is and someone has already done this, you could save me a lot of head-scratching. I would appreciate any input. My wife would appreciate it as well, Thanks.

Randy, You have the same setup that I presently have, including the thru-hull on the starboard side. I have prepared the area for a new tank but have not yet determined the size yet. Once I get the top cover cut out (see attached link), I plan to make a few cardboard models and try to see if one of the standard Ronco's will fit. I am waiting for more favorable temperature to work on it (late March to early April). I do like the approach of cutting out the complete top, for access and then re-installing. That would allow the largest tank possible to be installed. I did as Morrie and Richard did or are doing, put a solid Ronco tank in the v-berth. I was limited due to my transducers being in there. If you don't need the storage you can easily get a 30+ gallon tank in there. See the Related Link or do a Photo/Project Forum search with "ronco", entitled "Avoid This Project".

I remember when I put mine in--in the standing area--someone else was in the process of putting one where you are talking about. A specific Ronco model was batted about, check the photo archives. There should be a couple step-by-step project posts. One of them will mention the Ronco optimal size model number. Josh

New custom fiberglass tank
was the way I went. I made a signboard model that would fit under the shower seat and be able to be installed from the Vberth starboard storage area. It has been in almost 4 years now and works great. It is a bit smaller than the original, cost $250, and I did not have to give up any space.

Head Tank solution Submitted by Yehudi on 09/02/2003 at 03:12PM regarding Hunter 37-cutter My 37C came with a 17 gallon macerator system with designated through-hull for discharge. The tank was located under the starboard side of the v-berth in its own comparment against the bulkhead. I kept that system and with a y-valve added a 27 gallon custom stainless tank to fit under the forward part of the v-berth specifically for holding and shoreside pump-out. It's great having both options. Keep looking in the archives - that's where this came from!
