What is the capacity of the flaxible tank in the circa 80's Hunter 33's it's time to loose it and I want to replace it with at least the same, probably more.

holding tank retrofit for H33

Don't know whether a bag holding tank replacement is even available. Here is a link to a holding tank replacement that I put in years ago. It has functioned extremely well. One of its best features is the ability to quickly empty by gravity if legally able to do so.

A couple of problems, Terry...

I'm not a big fan of gravity discharge tank installations, for several reasons...but if you're happy with it, it's your boat. However, a couple of things need to be corrected: 1. There's no vented loop--at least none in your illustrations--in the head intake. Relying on the wet/dry valve to prevent water from flooding the bowl is highly risky, 'cuz a) people forget to leave the toilet in the dry mode--and sometimes even forget to close their seacocks when they leave the boat...and b) wet/dry valves have a very high failure rate. So you need to install one. It has to go between the pump and the bowl, to replace the short piece of hose the toilet mfr uses to connect 'em, and should be at least 6-8" above waterline at any angle of heel. 2. Tee fitting instead of a y-valve in the tank discharge line. That means the hose to the thru-hull is always full of waste except when the seacock is open...standing waste in hoses results in permeated hoses. If you don't want to replace the tee with a y-valve, put a shutoff valve in the line at the tank.

Bladder tanks.

The bladder tank that I replaced in my H37C looked small when empty. But it would easily expand to over thirty gallons. I replaced it with a 22 gal. Ronco in the center locker of the v-berth. I could have gone much larger but wanted to retain some storage. And I still have transducers(4) in there.

Peggy, look again at the schematic

for the retrofit in the photo forum article I referenced. A y valve is indeed shown at the tank discharge. (two y valves are shown). As far as gravity discharge, that thing sucks like a tornado, emptying in a very few seconds. I see no disadvantage at all at least not in this installation applicable only to the H33. I agree that a vented loop on the intake is prudent and the boat has one. The article though was for the discharge side with the intake not shown at all. Best thing about this installation which it should be emphasized is only applicable to the H33 is that it takes up almost no room from the cockpit locker and uses a commercially available tank. Also, in about 5 years of operation, the smells which were unpleasantly associated with the old system are permanently gone! Biggest problem I have had is with the forespar y valves themselves. They came with a flimsy handle which in a little while broke off. Now forespar has a new much more sturdier handle but you have to pay to get the redesigned handle. Also, since the tank is translucent, the level can easily be monitored by just putting a spot light up against the tank to see the inside liquid level.

I only looked at the schematic (fig. 1)

Understandable if it only shows the discharge plumbing that you didn't include the intake vented loop in it...but since you labeled the connection in the line from the tank to the overboard discharge line from the head as a tee, I assumed it IS a tee, not a y-valve.
