There is a short (3 inches) hairline crack visable on the lower left hand front corner of the location of the holding tank under the forward berths of our 82 H27. There is a dry stain indicating a minimal leak from the holding tank, probably only when pressure builds as the tank has filled. If I take out all those screws and lift the plate over the tank what am I going to be looking at? Is there an inserted tank in this well? If so is this repair/replacement something a beginner wants to tackle or should I leave it up to those who know what they are doing? Andy Baroque

If you can gain access without using a chain saw

No reason why you shouldn't open it up and see what condition the tank is in. If it is leaking, replacement is the only thing that makes sense. As for whether you should tackle that job yourself, it's not rocket scienceor even a job that requires any special skills. You'll find guidelines in the Head Mistress forum Reference Library (link to it is on the forum homepage).

Holding tank

Sounds like you have a retrofitted holding tank there. I assume from your desription, the tank is located just aft of the water tenk under the v-berth. The giveaway on retrofit is plate and screws over it as original is one piece inner liner. Best bet is check out the plastic tanks that the "head mistress" can supply site for and get rid of aluminum [corrosion prone] tank. All the hard work is already done for you with access plate.
