First rule on hoisting sails on boats, If sail binds stop. You have a problem! This is a no brainer! Sail should go up easy all the way to top! Are you on slugs? Or rope feed? Are you jacking sail at mast ie. Feeding it in slot to help? try this first! One person feeds .one person takes up slack! A Catalina 22 is a real simple system ! Should not be hard to check out. Have you checked mast top and lubed it at roller? Lupe with some spray lube the mast slot. But stop pulling it hard till you find problem! I walk all over boat and lube every part I can find that moves every other week helps stop rust and when I pull on sheets really helps. Good Luck , Jack, Catalina 22, sailing san diego

Jack's right,

it should be easy. I'm also a new C22 owner and had the same problem. I replaced all the slugs - I only had 1 screw fall overboard. Then I ran a bar of soap up the slot several times. That made a big difference. Also - check that the halyard isn't wrapped around a spreader.
