oday mariner 19 wpsa
I currently dry sail an oday mariner. Our club hoist will handle the weight of the hunter being the mariner and hunter 216 are just about the same weight. The mariner is lifted at the port and starboard chain plates and stern mooring cleats. Can the hunter 216 be hoisted in a similar fashion or is it a traier launch only.

I personally said no to this idea suggesting the boat to be picked up by straps underneath the hull.

Hunter 23.5 New Orleans
I am unfamiliar with a 216. That said, i regularly use straps to lift and launch my 23.5. I am very careful to be sure the straps are clear of the centerboard and when lifting, the ballast tank drain valve is open. The initial lift is made very slowly so that the ballast water is drained before the boat lifts clear from the water. The lift has a spreader bar to avoid compression on the boat top sides. No problems so far, but I can imagine trouble if the ballast tank were not fully drained and the straps were placed too close to the boat ends.

Kind regards

Hugh

Thank you Hugh for your response backing me up. In order to lift a boat up via a single point, the boat has to be built for that and none of the Hunter trailerables will fit the bill.

Crazy Dave, I'll jump in too...Looking at the mounting bolts on the tangs for the stays, they are certainly NOT designed to carry the loads of lifting the boat. I also use straps to lift her when I need to pick her up off the trailer

Hunter216 216 Rehoboth Bay
I sail on Rehoboth Bay, Delaware where several 216s are regularly lifted into the water and back out. They use a four tailed cable link which attaches to the chain plates and the rear cleats and which is lifted from the center. This has been going on for years without problems. Send queries to Rehoboth Bay Sailing Association.
