Rather than use my trailer for launching my swing keel 22, I'd like to use the hoist that is available at many marinas around the SF Bay area. I have not found any reference as to a specific way to attach launch straps. Perhaps it is not a good thing to try with a 22. (I presently use a hoist whenever possible to launch a smaller boat). Any comments? In advance, Thanks.

No worries

My boat was lifted by straps using a crane. The straps were just in front of and just in back of the keel. No problems. The straps distribute the weight nicely, so there is not any hull deformation issues to worry about. Regards, Ted

Hoist

Like Ted's experience on the east coast, my 22 has been in and out by straps on the west coast. The advantage is it keeps the trailer out of salt water. The hoist operator knew how to do it. Putting it back on the trailer was a little more difficult as the trailer bunks kind of got in the way and the operator had to use styrofoam blocks to move the straps about a bit. No damage to either boat or trailer.

stickers for position of straps

I have a C22, and for one season kept it at a marina with a hoist. The first time the hoist operator put the straps under the boat, he attached stickers to the topsides. The stickers were a reference point so that the straps would not interfere with the keel or with the bunks. I was in and out about a half dozen times, and each and every time it went very smooth. All I had to do was position the straps at the stickers.
