Can someone provide me with the cutout dimensions for ports and hatches? I am in the process of buying the boat and want to replace these items soon. Also, when replacing the skylights, is it best to have a local shop duplicate them or can new ones be purchased from Hunter? Thanks! Randy Gresham, OR

Rehab on HL 35

Randy, It looks like I have recently been down exactly the same road on my HL35. Some thoughts for you. Ports The original equipment ports for the main cabin were rectangular Beckson Model 410. There several possible reasons for thinking about replacement but I doubt that you would wish to pay for a complete new port or ports. 1. If the port lenses are all clouded up, as mine were, then it is easy to get replacement lenses from Beckson. The lens size is close to 10-7/8ins X 4-3/4ins and it is a very easy job to change them out. Google "Beckson" - they do mail order. Makes a wonderful difference but now I need drapes 'cos people can also see in easily!! 2. If the port sealing strip is damaged, news sealing strip can also be obtained from Beckson. One thing that I discovered is that my old sealing strip had an extra lip to attach a bug screen, but the ones that Beckson sent did not have this feature nor were the two different types mentioned on their website. 3. If their is a leak around the port frame, you will probably be OK removing and resealing the same frame. I only had to do one. I did discover though that the leak seemed to be due to the fact that the cutout was not large enough to allow a decent amount of sealant to be squirted into place around the frame. So opened it up and everything is now great. As for the two oval ports in the rear cabin and head, I think that these may be from Grey - but I am not sure. Next job! I have no experience with the hatches but replacing leaking skylights is a different matter. With online help from Fred Ficarra and lots of Down Corning 995 sealant(messy stuff), I have resealed all of mine and replaced a couple of the lenses with material from a local shop. Search in the archives for details of this operation that both Fred and I have both posted. Contact me offline (see Owner Directory on this site) if you need any more help. Have fun with your HL35! Forward Hatch Info

This is the info I have for the hatch over the V-berth: Bomar “low profile” model. Hatch No.: 1039-10AX, Hatch opening 19-1/4” x 19-1/4” [verify dimensions and model number] Note: Original replacement hatches for an 1988 boat are not available due to a fire at the factory that destroyed their tooling and engineering drawings. Installation: The radius of the new hatch is slightly greater than the old one so you'll have to fill in each of the corners with a bit of fiberglass. Bomar, Div. Of Pompanette, Inc. South West Street PO Box W Charlestown, New Hampshire 03603 Tel: 603-826-5791, Fax: 603-826-4125 http://www.pompanette.com Oval ports in aft cabin and head: Portlight, Elliptical Bomar Portlight No. 616 Elliptical. Portlight opening 5-1/8” x 15-1/4”, Hole cut-out 6” x 16”, smoke lens standard and optional stainless steel ring. Add ¼” (6mm) when using stainless steel ring in cutout. Replacement screen for 616: GS616 – 28. Cabin Ports Beckson Beckson Rain Drain™ Replacement Part No. P/N P0410DBS-20, Port Replaced ~10 May 98 4 x 10 RAIN DRAIN PORT Inside frame (hole size): 4-1/2" x 10-1/2" Outside frame: 6-1/4" x 12-3/4" Spigot: 2" Body window P0410DBS-20 Black Smoked [coach roof] P0410DWS-20 White Smoked [aft cabin] BECKSON MARINE, INC. skylights and ports

I replaced my skylights and rebedded/replaced 3 of the 4 ports. Replacement skylights were ordered from Hunter...contact them. Ports were Beckson 410, I believe. They were very responsive. I only ordered one new port, the other two were just rebedded. I was just careful removing the parts...external trim ring and main body. Used liberal amount of black sealant recommended by Beckson. I second the one post about just replacing the lens if that's the only problem with the port. My skylights are great looking, however they are leaking again. I intend to rebed them using techniques mentioned in the form (just search there). I believe the main problem is the surface on which they rest is not flat and they are. Since someone usually walks on them when lowering the main, they flex and the sealant separates. The forum suggests "bumpons", which I'll try. Another thing I'll be doing is having the edges of the skylights shaved so there's a bigger gap for sealant between the boat and the skylight. Best of luck.
