I just got my boat and not sure if rudder blade must always be up for operating outboard engine. Can the boat be motored with the rudder down?

Yes

In fact the rudder MUST be down when motoring. The o/b tiller does not have enough range in the Mac motor well to steer correctly. Steer with the rudder! You may want to add a prop guard to protect the rudder from the prop blades. There's a recent thread om this. The first time I put my 26S in the water, I had my rudder pinned in the up position thinking I would steer out of the cove with the motor. I quickly found out that doesn't work. It was embarassing! :(

Very nice work

Mark, that is so cool. Now you can stop worrying about the rudder. I always thought one of the horizontal fins or whale tails I guess would do the same thing sort of if one couldn't afford this ring or make one yourself. Steve P.

Effect

Mark, Can you tell us if the ring around your prop has had any effect on the outboards use. Thanks John S
