In fact the rudder MUST be down when motoring. The o/b tiller does not have enough range in the Mac motor well to steer correctly. Steer with the rudder! You may want to add a prop guard to protect the rudder from the prop blades. There's a recent thread om this.The first time I put my 26S in the water, I had my rudder pinned in the up position thinking I would steer out of the cove with the motor. I quickly found out that doesn't work. It was embarassing!
Mark, that is so cool. Now you can stop worrying about the rudder. I always thought one of the horizontal fins or whale tails I guess would do the same thing sort of if one couldn't afford this ring or make one yourself.Steve P.
