I saw excerpts of NASA's news conference. What got me was Pluto being 4.67 billion miles from earth, it takes signals 16 1/2 hours to travel between the NH spacecraft & Earth.

Another ditty is that all of the info transmitted during the flyby will take 16 1/2 months before NASA downloads it all.

Space exploration amazes me. That's why I like diving/spearfishing, I tell folks that diving is alittle like being in space. And like space, diving is the closest you will ever be to discovering an alien world.

ps: It's already more than 1 million miles past Pluto & cruising.

Well I got curious and watched a NOVA program on Pluto. It's actually a dwarf planet and has 5 moons, that would even out the tides a little.

PS I don't Twitter.

Probably being a jerk here but all the planets except Earth were named after the gods of Greek mythology. Pluto (AKA Hades) was the ruler of the underworld.
and all this time i thought it was some guy named Capone

I have wondered who decided Pluto was NOT a planet. I heard it was because many asteroids were bigger.
But recently photos shows Pluto has 5 moons.
How many astroids have 5 moons?

The recent pictures are amazing. Pluto has more interesting features than Mercury, Uranus and Neptune. A bunch of nerds got together and Plutoed Pluto. The way I learned the 9 planets in order was "My Very Elegant Mother Just Served Us Nine Pancakes." Now it's "Many Very Educated Men Just Screwed Up Nature."

WOW! Coincidentally that is the exact time between my views of SBO's forums!:yikes:
No wonder my natal horoscope had Pluto rising.

Can someone tell me why when Pluto and Goofy are both dogs, Pluto does not wear
clothes while Googy does? Just wondering.

Goofy has a pedigree. Pluto uses his papers for other purposes. Both end up in the same cartoon. Go figure.

Properly Earth's scientific name is Terra. As for 'Earth', only English speakers call it that! Everyone translates it to their language, normally to the term for 'ground' or 'dirt'. ;^)

So Joe Dirt's proper name is Joseph Terra. Interesting.

I see there is a major "rethink" on Dwarf Planet Pluto. They now think it behaves like a planet as solar winds pass it.
There a web petition to rename the 5 moons of Pluto...
1) Goofy
2) Donald Duck
3) Daisy
4) Huey-Dewey-Louie
5) Scrooge McDuck
Jim...

PS: Donald Fauntleroy Duck is the only Sailor among the Duck clan.
