Hinged seats on O'Day 23

One of the two starboard hinged seats in the cockpit on my O'Day 23 has absorbed so much water through a hole in the top that I'm afraid it's shot. Does anyone have a good source for the replacement of same? I assume the factory will be an arm and a leg. Email: jniederhauser@saginawcounty.com

I checked out Rudy's web site and the price he is quoting is $330!http://www.drmarine.com/Seems like a lot - have you thought about repairing the one you have? I recently completed repairing my centerboard - and quite frankly if I had to do it again - I wouldn't I'd spend the $400 odd dollars and get sailing.Good luckJames

Drain and dry

Hi John -To what extent is that hatch damaged? Since winter is coming, you might as well remove the hatch, take it home, and give it a try. I imagine you'd need to drain it via the existing hole (turn hatch upside down) or cut a new drain hole. Once dried out THOROUGHLY, you could fill with epoxy or vinylester, sand, fair, and repaint. There is plenty of DIY information on the web to check out. Worst case scenario, you buy a new one from Rudy next spring. Let us know how you make out!Trevor

Take it off, remove the underneath fiberglass and rotted ply core, put a new one on and glass it in. Man o man, that should take about 4 hours. Rocket science.
