Hinged Mooring Whip Bases

I've been using fixed bases with my mooring whips for several years and snagging shrouds on the whips periodically the whole time. There are products from various manufacturers on the market which could solve my problem, but they're kind of pricey, so I decided to roll my own. Here are the results.

In the immortal words of Red Green, "If the women don't find you handsome, at least they'll find you clever!". That is the neatest setup for whips I've seen; and do-it-yourself too.

Wish Galvanized hinges would work where my boat is located.

I did look at stainless steel hinges and latches. They would have added about $50 to the total cost.
