My boat is registered as a 1978, but my Hull Identification Number is XDYG2099M781. I thought the last two digits represented the year of manufacture. Was my boat mis-yeared at some point? Was it really built in 1981?

Someone has posted a copy of a page off Rudy Nickerson's old O'DAY SAILBOATS website that explains all of this, as well as changes made to the codes starting in 1984.
