HIN (Hull Id Number) is lost. Need Replacement HIN Tag

HELP!

I lost the Hull ID Tag from my inflatable, and the US CG Requires all vessels have a Hull Identification Number (HIN). HIN TAG on an inflatable. I had one when I purchased it as good, used in 2008 (I photographed it), and again in 2010.

Does anyone know the process of getting a replacement HIN Tag for the inflatable?

I tried calling Defender, and they suggested the mfr (whom I shall call), and also the local Environmental Police here in MA, as they do have the authority to create new tags for "home built" boats.

(It might not have been a problem, except that the dealer would not accept it as a trade due to the missing HIN Tag.)

Thanks,

Bob

When I was building boats and assigning HIN's, I used to engrave the number in the transom using a dremel tool. Would it work ok to engrave it min the transom? Just has to be "permanently affixed"

My Maestral has the second hin number in a small pocket molded into one of the tubes. I'm sure you would have seen it if there was one, though. Maybe molded into the fiberglass?

If you know the number, just mark it yourself. If you don't, go to your local DMV, they can issue a new one.

All you need to prove the HIN is the proper paperwork, a certificate of origin from the manufacturer or a title or registration in your name. The HIN can be engraved, painted or tagged to the boat. All they want to know is that if something comes up with that HIN in the future that they know who to look up.

Thanks for all the great ideas.

Thank you all, but the missing was not found, but we found a second location for a spare HIN Tag. It is under a flap on one of the tubes. The dinghy is still in the hands off my selling agent, so I cannot see it for myself. (I could see it, if I were to drive the 80+ miles each way.)

I called the Manufacturer, now Zodiac, at Z Marine Inflatables LLC in Summter, NC. The service rep told me where to find the alternate location for the 2nd HIN Tag, so all other effort can be halted.
