Hight of main sail

After my mast fell overboard I am now picking up my boat after repair. We have got uksailmakers tapedrive sails. But when I roll out my main sail it is missing 40 cm to reach the top. The sailmaker should have taken messures of the new mast, so can there be any reason for designing the sail too short or has he just made a mistake? What do you recommend me to do? Thanks, Claus.

Something is not right.... That translates to nearly 16 inches. Unless you had a new sail made and it was cut too short, you have a mast that was not measured correctly. That would mean the mast would need to be shortened and all of the standing rigging would would also have to be shortened as well. Either that or cut off the top of the mast and re-install the masthead casting and all of the hardware up there. It would still require shortening some if not all of the standing rigging.
The next possibility is that the boom is positioned too low (mast base to boom connection) and the boom needs to be repositioned approximately 40cm higher on the mast.
Was the sail damaged when the mast fell over, and as the result was it re-cut?
Inquiring minds will want to know the outcome of this mystery.

it depends in my mind on your repair contract and what is specified contact whomever you had do the repair or who was in charge and have a discussion about this and try to resolve it amicably

oh and " vive la france!"

Here is a before and after they made some adjustments. Now it looks better. The reason they give for the still missing 25-30 cm is that it is a furling sail and it takes up space in the top.

Yes Dough I lost sail and the whole rigging, so it is a new messired out sail.

THAT is a VERY good reason. No excuses there. Imagine if they'd copied your old sail!!!

Assuming Stu is tongue in cheek I'll second that. We also have a furling main and the sail goes pretty much to the black band. Certainly not over a foot short of it.
